Dances of Universal Peace

The Dances of Universal Peace are a very special part of my life. They are simple, meditative, joyous and multi-cultural circle dances that use sacred phrases, chants, music, and movements from many spiritual traditions.  No musical or dance experience is necessary.

They were first presented in the late 1960s in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and are now spread to almost 40 countries.

I am a Dance of Universal Peace Dance Leader, initiated in 2018 during my second trip to the Sufi Camp at the Ecoaldea Atlántida ecovillage in Colombia. I have been to many retreats in North America to lead the Dances of Universal Peace. I regularly lead Dance Circles in Berkeley and San Francisco.

What are the Dances like? Throughout our time together, I lead the group in reciting the prayer’s words, singing the melody, and guiding the movements before each Dance.  Themes for the Dances include peace, healing, and the celebration of life’s great mystery. A typical session lasts about two hours and includes 7 to 8 Dances.
